The Official SSC MTS Eligibility for 2025-26: What’s New?
The Staff Selection Commission has announced the SSC MTS 2025-26 eligibility criteria with a few notable updates. The basic age requirement remains 18 to 25 years for most Multi-Tasking Staff posts.
But, for Havaldar positions, the upper age limit has been extended up to 27 years to give more candidates a fair chance. In terms of education, candidates must have successfully passed Class 10 or Matriculation from a recognized board.
For the exam, age relaxations for reserved categories have also been revised according to the latest government rules. Adding more to that, physical standards and fitness tests continue to be compulsory for Havaldar roles.
SSC MTS Eligibility 2025: Age, Education, Fitness & more
SSC MTS eligibility for 2025 fixes the multiple aspects, including age, education, physical fitness, nationality, and category relaxations. We have enlisted & explained them below:

1. Age
Those candidates who are applying for the Staff Selection Commission’s multi-tasking staff exam, must be between 18 and 25 years. But, for Havaldar posts, the maximum age is 27 years. For the reserved categories, age relaxations are available as per government norms.
2. Educational Qualification
Those candidates who want to apply for the MTS exam must have passed Class 10 / Matriculation or its equivalent from a recognized board. For this examination, higher qualifications are not mandatory, but a valid mark sheet and certificate must be presented during document verification.
3. Fitness
In the context of general MTS posts, physical fitness is not mandatory. However, candidates applying for Havaldar roles must meet specific physical standards such as chest expansion, height, and weight, along with passing a fitness test like walking or running (for latest updates – check the official notification).
4. Nationality
The candidate must be an Indian citizen. But he/she can also be the subject of Nepal, Bhutan, or Tibetan refugees (those who settled in India before 1962) may also apply. But they need to provide that they have proper government-issued eligibility certificates.
5. Age Relaxation
In this examination, certain categories enjoy relaxation benefits. For example, SC/ST candidates get 5 years, OBC candidates 3 years, and PwD candidates up to 10 years. Also, Ex-servicemen have additional relaxation that directly depends on their service length.
6. Number of Attempts
There is no fixed attempt limit for SSC MTS & that’s good news. This is why aspirants can apply multiple times, until or unless they fall within the prescribed age limit and meet other eligibility conditions set by the Staff Selection Commission.
7. Experience Requirement
In this examination, candidates do not need prior work experience for the Multi-Tasking Staff. Those freshers who meet the educational and age criteria can directly apply for this test.
